Weather
In Spring, expect average highs of 21°C and lows of 13°C. It can be quite cool at this time of year, so visitors are recommended to take warmer clothes especially for venturing out after dark. Rainfall is not uncommon either, so bringing an umbrella or raincoat is advisable. The UV index will be very high, so we advise you to use sun cream. The average sea temperature is 19°C, certainly warm enough for a swim!
Clothing
For IEC conferences, we suggest business-casual dress, and for the social programme we recommend smart-casual, unless otherwise stated.
Safety and useful contacts
Safety: Tenerife is generally considered a safe place, however, as in all tourist destinations, you should never let your guard down and leave expensive items unattended. Pickpockets take advantage in airports, train stations and tourist sites, and we therefore suggest exercising a typical level of vigilance with regard to your personal safety.
Tenerife emergency services: Call 112 from any landline or mobile in an emergency.
Nearest hospital: Hospital del Sur de Tenerife, TF-28, 21, 38652 Arona, a 22-minute journey by car.
Nearest pharmacy: Pharmacy Playa San Juan Yanes Lcda Maria Concepción Pérez, Av. Reina Sofía, 17, 38687 Playa San Juan, is a 7-minute journey by car.
If you require a doctor during your stay, please contact the hotel concierge.
Electricity
Volts: The voltage in Tenerife is a 220 volt alternate current and 50 Hz.
Electric plug/adaptors: Plugs have two round prongs the same as in continental Europe.
Tipping
Tipping in Tenerife is neither mandatory nor expected, but you may choose to tip 5-10% of the bill if you have received good service. In taxis, it is common practice to round up the cost of the journey to the nearest unit, as a tip.
