A recipe for success: Global recognition for GanongBio egg innovation
01 March 2024
GanongBio is a third-generation egg production business in South Korea that produces, packs and delivers eggs and egg products. Tim Yoo, Marketing and Sales Director, delivered a winning presentation to a global delegation at IEC Lake Louise in September 2023, earning his company their “first international recognition”, the IEC Golden Egg Award for Marketing Excellence.
In his presentation, Tim highlighted how the company’s mission to supply delicious, high-quality eggs in a responsible manner is paramount to the success of the brand. He says that winning the award has meant a great deal to Ganong and it demonstrates that “an audience from all over the world has an interest in what a small farm in a small country has been doing to survive”.
Winning the Golden Egg Award means that an audience from all over the world has an interest in what a small farm in small country has been doing to survive in the ever-changing, nearly turbulent, business environment in the recent years.
With a focus on two major consumer influences for the egg industry, nutrition and sustainability, Ganong has successfully developed “interesting ways to sell a product that may seem too familiar and generic” with its diverse range of egg products.
Through industry partnerships, Ganong were able to create a nutrient rich egg that has guaranteed DHA and omega-3 content. According to Tim “customers could taste the difference” and expressed positive feedback regarding the yolk’s colour, strength and overall flavour.
This award is a catalyst to my passion for Ganong and the pursuit of better, more delicious eggs. It really adds confidence to the direction that I have steered our Marketing and Sales department towards and makes me strive to be a better employee and leader.
Tim went on to outline Ganong’s proactive response to changes in consumer behaviour during the pandemic, in particular, taking advantage of increased online sales by creating their ‘eggshop’ app. The ‘eggshop’ app delivers eggs from farm to table within an impressive 11-hour window, ensuring they maintain freshness. Ganong’s reusable, innovative packaging also simultaneously allows waste reduction and customer satisfaction. Tim highlighted how they were able to capitalise on “one of the world’s best logistical systems”, Korea’s small land size and high-density population.
With reference to entering the Golden Egg Award, Tim explains that “the process of preparing the presentation beforehand really forces you to review your own steps”. He says that this process of self-reflection combined with worldwide peer reviews was an “invaluable experience”.
I would most certainly recommend entering the Golden Egg Award to other innovative companies or even companies that strive to be innovative. The process of preparing the presentation beforehand really forces you to review your own steps. This process of self-reflection combined with the reviews and comments of your peers from all over the world turns out to be an invaluable experience.
Since winning the award, Ganong has been launching more processed egg products across a range of new channels and focusing on maximising exposure to potential customers following “one of the most successful calendar years in terms of sales”.
With a contemporary approach to a commodity product, Ganong has excelled with innovative ways to buy and consume eggs, making them deserving recipients of this prestigious award.
